How to Move with the Best Boxes and Gear

Moving is not an exciting topic.  Most people do not like it but when home values climb that they have in 2021 then you get pretty pumped fast.   So if you are seeing your home value go crazy and are looking to move, then we have learned a few tricks and tips that have ended up saving time, making the trips easier, and even saving money. Don't get me wrong I have also failed many times and actually ended up in the hospital from some back injuries due to my failure.  But with all of the bad has come some really good information and now moving can be an ok time if you know some useful tips and tricks to rock the job.

Don't fall into the biggest American trap.  Trucks actually suck for moving.  People end up damaging more items and hurting themselves more getting heavy items into trucks than anything else.  The fact is that they sit higher up than almost any other vehicle and for the most part, can't be ramped or have a ramp put in place to pull stuff upon them.  I have scratched and dented at least 4 trucks, and lots of furniture and felt super bad about all of it.  The truth is that the damage for each one of those cost more than renting a trailer for the day.  There is also nothing worse than stacking cheap moving boxes up in a truck and having all the stuff simply fall out of them because they had to be lifted over the side of the truck bed.  This move right here has cost thousands of dollars of damage and that is not only due to the truck.  Now part of that issue was the fact that I was using cheap moving boxes and I am the only one to blame for that.

If you have a trailer that you can use instead of a truck then do it.  Or go and rent one because it is so worth it.  I have used a flat trailer for the last 4 moves and it not only made moving all large and cumbersome items easier but much faster.  None of the items go damaged and no people got injured.  We were simply able to walk up a super short ramp that was not steep with items or able to use a cart or hand cart to roll them in and secure them.  This has been an amazing thing, but our trailer is not covered.  So it does have a downside of being open to the rain.  We rented one even though it did not have a roof. Still, it was cheap and worth the price. 

If you are moving then you also need to get good things to put your items in.   if you are using those old packages you have moved multiple times with, then you are in for a bad time.  Flimsy boxes are simply a danger to you and the items you are moving to.  Hop online and buy a moving box package from a nice packaging supplies store and spend less than fifty dollars to save all your items and sanity.  I always get the mover I am helping or us a set of nice packages that have tape and sharpies that come with them.  You know that is just nice and now that I am older it is worth every penny.
